Hieroglyphics or hieroglyphs are graphical characters made to symbolize animals or objects during those times when the universal language is yet to be developed. Some even considered hieroglyphics as the earliest form of art. These ancient writings are priceless and treasured since a set of hieroglyphics tells stories of ancient times allowing us to experience and catch a small glimpse of it. Hieroglyphs were used under different eras and by various civilizations such as Sumerian and Babylonians.

Ancient Egyptians are well-known for their extensive collection of hieroglyphs. These are the ones you will remember when you say hieroglyphics although there have been many types in existence. Apparently, ancient Egyptians chart every phenomenon and occurrences made during their time. These are documentations that are very important in their society during those times; these are considered as sacred writings so no one even dared messing them up back then. Hieroglyphs were written in stones, cloths, and wood. There have been attempts of deciphering these inscriptions but only few succeeded in doing so.

Most hieroglyphic signs are phonetic-based which means the symbols stood for closely sounding words. Symbols are used redundantly and can stand for many different meanings depending on other symbols they were grouped with.

Egyptian hieroglyphs used more than 2,000 characters representing objects commonly seen in Egypt. They also have a numbering system using symbols and images instead of our usual numbers. The most famous of all hieroglyphic discoveries is the Rosetta stone which was instrumental in better understanding of these inscriptions.

Dream interpretation has many ways. You can ask one culture and they will most likely tell you something different from another one. But they all agree on one thing, dreams are important and therefore, must be noted by the dreamer.

If you ask a dream psychologist, he will tell you that dreams are there to give the mind and body the time to breathe from all the stress and tensions of everyday life and without them, frustrations and anxiety will destroy us. On the other hand, Egyptians have their own method of interpreting dreams called oneiromancy. With this method, they look for symbols and find meanings from there.

For Tibetans, your dreams can be your experiences from the previous day such as what you heard or seen and your feelings toward the incident. Dreams can also be your prayers, your heart’s desires and wishes, whether they were answered or not. It can also be omens or illnesses.
