Venomous Wisdom: Snakes in Dream Psychology

Posted By admin on March 19th, 2010

In most cultures, a snake is one of the most dreaded creatures in both waking life and in dreams. However, in some traditions, like Hinduism, it is considered divine and is worshiped. Yet other cultures, like the Chinese, associate snakes with wisdom and transformation. Dream psychology, accordingly, interprets the appearance of snakes in dreams differently, according to the culture, traditions, and/or symbolic meanings of subconscious forces.

In western (Judeo-Christian-Islamic) traditions, snake is generally a symbol of evil or Satan – an enemy of mankind. This also holds for dreaming of a snake, though dream interpretations vary according to the actual dreaming sequence or the dreamer’s role in relation to the snake. Watching a snake chasing you would mean an enemy machinating against you, in real life, possibly for inflicting bodily harm. Many snakes together, in a group or pit, indicate bad luck in professional and/or personal life. Similarly, if a dreamer sees him/herself killing a threatening snake, it points to victory or dominance over the enemy or adversary in real life.

How Dreams Are Used In Chinese Medicine

Posted By admin on November 11th, 2009

We know that somewhere in between dreaming and reality, there’s bound to be a connection somewhere, although all points seem to be leading to dead-ends. To date, there is no existing, hard evidence or explanation on how dreams really work but indeed different cultures got their own views and beliefs on why they exist and how they can help the dreamer improve their way of living.

That’s one thing I like about dreaming. If you take a look and study how experts conclude the dreaming process, it’s always on the bright and positive side of things. If it is viewed as an omen or portent of bad things to come, it is deemed to be taken as a warning so that the dreamer can prepare for it, if not avoid the threatening danger. Because of these, dreams eventually are valued and appreciated, never shunned.

Horoscope

Posted By admin on June 30th, 2009

http://www.dreamsemantics.com/2009/06/horoscope/

Horoscopes are predictions of our future based on the positions of planets in relation to other astrological manifestations. It is a Greek word meaning “a look at the hours” while in Latin, it means “observer of the hour”. When used in astrology, it pertains to the chart or diagram which represents the position of astrological bodies. On the other hand, due to the nature of which it is used, the term horoscope now refers to as the astrologers’ prediction itself.

The most common form of horoscope we know today is the one which relies on the sun’s placement in accordance to one’s birthdate. Through which, the astrologer’s predictions are generally based on “star signs” for a certain group of people, or at least the closest estimation of which. In general, there are twelve sets which people are grouped together according to their birthdates. These twelve sets correspond to the twelve Zodiac signs we’re all familiar of. Naturally, every person belongs to one sign but there are some who were born in between signs hence they are considered in cusp. When you’re in a cusp, you enjoy a little bit of both signs or so it seems.

Healing Dreams

Posted By admin on February 12th, 2009

http://www.dreamsemantics.com/2009/02/healing-dreams/

Healing Dreams are just what the phrase connotes.  Dream Psychologists say that these types of dreams are the mind’s way of communicating to the body that it needs healing.  The origin of this type of dream dates back to Ancient Greece when sick persons spent the night in the temple of Aeslepius, the healing God.  If the Gods chose to intercede, dreams were sent to the patient via the God Hypnos (God of Sleep).  The dreams are then interpreted by a therapute (where the word therapist came from) and then a diagnosis is made.

The practice of interpreting healing dreams is not limited to the Ancient Greeks.  The Chinese and the Hindus also believe that dreams contain messages regarding our health.  The Chinese have identified certain symbols in dreams which they say identify which part of the body needs healing.   A bad dream generally means serious diseases or illnesses and normal dreams connote good health or recovery.

Epic Dreams

Posted By admin on February 12th, 2009

http://www.dreamsemantics.com/2009/02/epic-dreams/

Epic dreams are vivid dreams which sometimes recur.  These dreams are said to be “breakthrough” or “inspirational” dreams which compel the dreamer.  These are also called Cosmic Dreams.

There have been accounts of people who have had Epic dreams.  They say that when they experienced this dream it was just too “psychedelic for words”.  Indeed epic dreams are hard to define but dream psychologists advice the dreamer to take note of the elements of these dreams as they can have hidden meanings which can be interpreted.
