What is Lucid Dreaming?

http://www.dreamsemantics.com/2009/02/what-is-lucid-dreaming/

Lucid dreaming in simple layman’s term is being totally aware while dreaming. When we enter dream state, we usually cannot control the things that are happening in our dreams. We just let it happen.

On the other hand, lucid dreaming is when the dreamer can participate and manipulate his dreams to whatever he desires to do so. These dreams are very vivid and real to the dreamer’s point of view. It is also called a conscious dream.

There are two ways to start lucid dreaming. The first one is when you go to sleep,  you start dreaming normally and at some point, you realize you are in a dream. The other way is skipping the normal dreaming all together and start lucid dreaming right after you fall asleep, this happens when the body is too tired and falls asleep as soon as it hits the bed. Lucid dreaming can also occur when you take naps in the morning, just few hours off from waking. Lucid dreaming takes place right before you wake up which is the phase where sleep and wakefulness overlaps.
